LaserVault Develops Audit Log Feature for LaserVault Reports

LaserVault has developed an audit log for its flagship product, LaserVault Reports. The audit log, which runs from the system administration screen, keeps a detailed log of every event that occurs in the system.

The events recorded by the audit log include logins, logouts, look ups, key selects, and printings. Each event is recorded, along with the date and time, accurate up to one-hundredth of a second, as well as the report and the event agent.

Systems administrators can search the audit log by any individual field or combination of fields. Date ranges can also be specified. Results can be exported to Microsoft Excel with the click of the button for further analysis or backup.

An auto purge option is also included in the feature.

LaserVault spokesperson Alfred Jensen maintains that the audit log is valuable not only for compliance reasons, but also as an analysis tool. “In the IT industry, demonstrating return on investment is now more important than ever,” he says. “This feature will help provide evidence of value beyond savings on green bar paper. The audit log records will help underline the central role of IT-enabled documents in enabling worker productivity.”

The audit log was written using Microsoft Access, and therefore runs independent of a separate server program. It is available at no cost to LaserVault Reports users, and will be made available in the forthcoming general update of the system.

LaserVault provides document management systems that are famous for being fast, easy-to-use, and inexpensive. Increasing system functionality while maintaining price and service is the company’s number one goal.
