CHALLENGES
The time had come for the Young Adult Institute (YAI) to replace their IBM Tape Library.
Backups were too slow and using tape was causing a significant daily disruption for users due to necessary backup window times.
YAI wanted a virtual tape solution that would backup their production iSeries with their Kronos application and also work with their Cohesity platform.
SOLUTION
Richard Leite, Information Technology Director at YAI, says,
“We were looking for an option to replace our outdated tape backup platform. And we were looking to have a cloud/SAN based method to help with our DR plan. We required a seamless integration with our Cohesity platform.”
LaserVault ViTL met all of their requirements.
“We use ViTL to backup our iSeries for daily, weekly and monthly runs. I recently had to use the restore process and it was excellent.”
LaserVault ViTL is a virtual tape and tape library solution designed for tight integration with IBM Power Systems. ViTL connects via Fibre Channel or SAS and provides the ability to easily streamline operations and backup without tape to NAS, SAN, dedupe appliance, or the cloud.
SUMMARY
“Try the ViTL application and I assure you, it will be the best decision you will ever make to improve your backup solution,” states Richard.
“ViTL offers excellent save/restore times and comes at a great price. It was a quick and easy setup, and LaserVault Support was great at assisting us with integration and installation.
“Backup and restore speed alone is a big win for us. Tape backup was much slower and since moving with ViTL, we have saved over 4 hours of backup disrupt time to our users per day.”
